The SSAB Sweden believe they have created the world's first, fossil-free steel. They are now in the stages of delivery. It clarifies that moves in energy and production in industry can indeed be made.


Delivering to their first customer in loyalty the Volvo Group, the update represents the latest development stage concerning the Hybrit. Constructed in 2016, ownership residing with SSAS, energy firms in mining and minerals, not coke and coal in the steel production industry. The concept running throughout this – 100 percent fossil-free hydrogen as opposed to steel.

The first fossil free stell in the world is not only for a breakthrough for SSAB it represents proof that it is possible to make a transition and significantly reduce the global carbon footprint of the steel industry.

The trial is thought of as an important link in the journey towards a value chain free of fossil fuels regarding steel, and coal. The hope is to extend the progress into industrial scale.

The Project Hybrit is not the only builder looking to seek out the influences of steel production. Green Steel intends to build a compound amidst North Sweden charged by a hydrogen facility.
