Birmingham City launched their Clean Air Zone on June 1st, affirming that drivers will not need to pay the fee each day, also that enforcement will not be carried out until June 14th.

The Grace Period

An introduction of a two week long grace period has been brought in to let drivers become familiar with new rules and think about different ways to getting into the Clean Air Zone.

Non- Compliant Cars

Come 2021 June 14th, the owners of these vehicles would need to pay a fee per day except if an exemption validated is in place. LGVs, taxis and cars not meeting the Clean Air Zone standard for emissions will gain a charge of £8 per day. HGVs, non-compliant coaches and buses will be required to pay a £50 charge per day.

Motorists do have the option to pay this in advance, six days after their entering the zone, or on the day of their entering visit. This sums to a total of thirteen days as a window for paying charges. To pay, you can do this online, using the payment portal given by the Government.

Measures

An array of options has been spun in to help the drivers affected by the clean air zone changes, consisting of financial incentives, temporary exemption permits, and the HDV Fund. The Heavy-Duty Vehicle.

The Second CAZ

The city of Birmingham is officially the second clean air zone to be launched, or soft launched in 2020, just like Bath, who were the first to shine light on their new CAZ. Portsmouth, Bristol, Greater Manchester, Bradford, Newcastle, North Tyneside, and Gateshead are next. Oxford is en route for a CAZ trial, and London's Ultra Low Emission Zone is planned to be extended to a location now 18 times bigger in expanse compared to the first Zone.
