The shortage will taper off as soon as supply and demand balance out once again.

The auto industry has been affected by the worldwide chip shortage as companies and motorists know, as have the majority of other tech using businesses globally.
Leading Chip Manufacturer's Opinion
The World's leading chip manufacturer TSMC spoke on the matter early in May, on thoughts that they will be able to meet the car demand for chips in time for June. This is to be seen.
Some believe this is far-fetched, some are of a mixed or middling opinion.
More Company Opinions
Gartner analyst Alan Priestly gave a statement that the shortage will persist throughout 2021. The shortage impacts all chip types and that chip prices are rising. The situation may improve for some sectors in the next six months, but that there may be a ‘knock-on effect' into 2022. It shouldn't go longer, the industry is putting more capacity in place, but it does take time.
Intel
Intel, a multinational technology company, aka semi-conductor producing, confirmed in March, that they are set to pour $20 billion on two brand new chip factories based in Arizona. The same company may construct a plant in Europe providing they receive the public funding needed for the building process.
Analyst, Priestly spoke on this- that stuff is going to take two or three years before we start to see that- but that's really looking to meet future demand.
Reinhard Ploss
Reinhard Ploss believes it is very clear it will take time before it becomes the case of supply and demand levelling out and becoming balanced once again. I think two years is too long, but we will definitely see it reaching out to 2022- I think additional capacity is going to come- I expect a more balanced situation in the next calendar year.
Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse gave information that the recent chip shortages have encouraged inventory hoarding along chip production chains, widening the gap between expanding demand and stagnant supply. The Director Zhao shared that the new semiconductor production capacity won't come online until 2022 or later- little can be done to address today's shortage besides adjusting order books, production schedules and prices.
Infineon
Chipmaker Infineon believes that the industry covering semi-conductors is an area considered un- familiar, as chief executive officer reported these thoughts earlier this week.
Conclusion
So, the conclusion for all that are affected is: invest as best you can, order the cars you want that are in stock, and be aware that the shortage will taper off as soon as supply and demand balance out once again.
