It's important to know how to take care of an EV. It's like your personal attentive investment. Taking you places, keeping you warm on those cold journeys. Only right that you keep it clean, charged and happy back. When all EV drivers do this, the EV community thanks them. They are different to petrol and diesel- not just the tech, but the etiquette around electric charging is essential for drivers to know.

Let's get into it:

Charging Points:

Respect our public charging infrastructure. You wouldn't abuse your charger at home. Showing respect keeps the space in optimal condition. Place the connector back in its receptacle, hanging the cable neat and tidy to avoid hazards.

Charging Points Not Parking Spots:

Don't be that driver, don't hog. Be a charming citizen, let every driver continue their day without charging delay. Most charging points are located in public destinations so- you can be quick!

The Charger Itself:

Usually, many EV's come with mobile apps that enable you to monitor charge level, so keep an eye on it this way, instead of the rude alternative spending long minutes at the charging point

The Golden Rule:

The golden rule - never unplug another EV unless they leave a specific note saying that you can. This applies to plug-in hybrids PHEV's.

Explore the Charging Options:

Inactive for around 20 hours per day, EV's are similar to fuel cars. Utilise this time and charge it.

Battery:

A medium balance of charge works best. Avoid letting your car run on low charge, and avoid maintaining 100% charge. Doing this risks unwanted pressure for your battery. Increased hot or cold temperatures can also degrade your battery as time goes on.

En Route

A planned route in advance. Make use of online or in-car mapping apps, services and kits to discover which charging points you can utilise as you go.

Claiming Back

Did you know it's possible to claim back your charging costs from your employer? Usually companies use the conversion rate of 4p per mile. Theoretically it's possible to claim the cost of electric mileage... but it is complex and hard to track. Go for the former option.

Electric Role Models:

Evidenced by Tesla, and CEO Elon Musk, EV's may be the durable driving force of the future. Better to be prepared with knowledge, and lead by example.

You have been well equipped. Go and take care of your car!
